In December 2023 something amazing happened. Something which I have wished for since the announcement that Game’s Workshop were working on an Eisenhorn TV show back in July 2019. For Christmas 2023 I was gifted the best of gifts. News that Games Workshop and Amazon Studios had signed an agreement to bring the war-torn universe of Warhammer 40K to screens both large and small:
Back in December last year we announced Games Workshop and Amazon Studios had signed an agreement in principle to work together to bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe to screens, big and small.
Well, today we have an update, and it’s one we’ve all been longing to hear. We’ve now signed the full agreement and the next stage can begin!
I’ve been a life long devotee to Warhammer 40K starting my obsession back in 1989 with the original Rogue Trader rulebook. It was grim and it was dark. It featured super soldiers, terrible aliens, and the start of a rich lore which has developed over the intervening decades into the behemoth we know it to be today.
Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K is now one of the most widespread and established settings in pop culture. Starting as a tabletop game, Warhammer 40K’s natural evolution was into video games. The next step is TV and movies.
Now comes the fun part: working out all the creative details with our partners and getting the first script written and into production. What Warhammer 40,000 stories should we tell first? Should we kick off with a movie or a TV show? Both?!
All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen. This illustrious group will be championed by Henry Cavill, who stands ready to take his place as executive producer – bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project.
I couldn’t be more excited. And I have so many questions. What will be first? TV or movie? What will be the first setting? Will Giga-Chad Henry Cavill play Eisenhorn or Big E? These and many more questions are yet to be answered.
